Alice and William have been moved outside into their new homes - normally first time over wintering is done in a shed, garage, conservatory but with a little adapting, these outside homes are suitable for mine.

The sides and back have been insulated with a foil backed bubble insulation from B and Q and two layers have been added to the roof. A waterproof cover is dropped down at night and I have an additional fleece blanket to use under the waterproof cover when it is colder.

Inside they have a large pigloo which is stuffed with hay and paper bedding, they also have extra hay on top of the pigloo that helps to insulate and they can take extra into their pigloo, you will be surprised at how much they can cram in there!!

Both are still eating and have shown no signs of hibernating, as they are above 700 grams, if they were to hibernate they would be fine - when it comes to release time, they will be able to go first and then I can rotate Miss Wagner, Pauline, Chester, Nellie, Darla and Gary so that they all have time to temperature adjustments in the outside hutches. I am hoping to add another double stack to do this within the next month.
