Had a message through Facebook yesterday - directed to me via my hairdresser - a lady had found a small hedgehog and had popped it into a rabbit run with a box and bedding and wanted to know what to do for her until she could be released.

I offered to go and look at her as it is important to remember that babies are about now and with the hedgehog been classed as small, you have to check it out and I am glad I did. She is a teeny tiny little girl.

From what I can gather, a farmer in Comberbach thought he had rats under his shed and put poison down, seven babies were seen by the side of the shed and were collected and taken to a rescue centre. This little one came out a day or so later.

Whilst it would be lovely to think we could just keep them and feed them up, you have to remember that they need to be checked for ticks and fleas and also for any internal parasites.

I explained all this to the lady and said she needed to go into more experienced care as she should be on a heat mat as well, she was cold.

She has asked if she can be released back into her garden which is huge and I mean huge, backs on to woods but no hedgehogs visit her garden and badgers are in the woods so it means she cannot go back there.

Have checked her over, no ticks or fleas, just waiting on a poop sample and I shall whip that and her over to Patrick for a check over - if she is fine, she can stay with me like Petal did and she will be released when she reaches release weight x

Iris will come and possibly this little one - her teeth have only just started to come through, had my suspicions last night as she was struggling with the mashed up terraine type cat food. Got some as smooth as I could last night but have been and got some recovery pate and some puppy milk from Patrick - shall offer her some in a dish to see if she drinks it, if not, shall syringe feed her x
