Well its finally that time of year, to say goodbye and fingers crosed for all our over winterers they are all awake some are ready for release, others are needing a little longer with us to put on some weight that was lost during hibernation. The winter has been so long this year that they can't wait to go now. Suppose we will just have enough time to give everywhere a good spring clean ready for the next influx BABIES !!!!!!! lol Smile

Baby found on main road with its dead sibling. No others found. Thank you to Hannah at Millenium Vets who kindly cleaned the wound on its back and cleaned out all the flystrike from his ears. He is still poorly but today weighs 78g grams. Eyes still not open but don't think it will be long. He has been named Horace by our very good friend Leigh

Poor little hoglet we took in last night weighing 150g was crawling with hundreds of fleas. There were so many we decided to imerse him in a little warm water which turned red with blood! No, there were no injuries it was just from the flea bites. No surprise that this little chap was also covered in flystike. I'm sure he feels much more comfortable today!

Another baby in 80g very poorly flystrike and maggots, vets had cleaned up the groin area but unfortunately missed the large open wound with maggots in front of the ear. Hog bathed and cleaned up given a shot of Ivomec and Baytril, warmed up and fed, just keep your fingers crossed now bless

So sad to report that the little hog with flystrike and maggots did not make it and died on Monday

But on a better happier note, remember the mum and 3 babies that came to us after the nest was disturbed, one of the babies had 6 toes on both front feet ? Mum was released after a few days and some good meals. All 3 babies were released last night all weighing 600 + g. Another good job done ! good luck little ones and lead a long happy healthy life

Big Bessy and her 5 hoglets arrived lunchtime after being dug out of their compost heap nest by a stray terrier dog. The home owner rescued the family and placed them in a box in his greenhouse whilst he contacted us. Unfortunately during the call the dog managed to get into the greenhouse and was found in the box with the hogs. We've found two small wounds on one of the babies but the others appear to be okay. Despite raising a litter of five Mum still weighed in at 978g and the little ones all weigh over 300g We'll keep Big Bessy in overnight and all being well she'll be returned home tomorrow evening. The rest of the family will be with us for a while longer. Oh yes and the terrier is now with the local dog warden.
