PostSubject: Hedgehog Names: Choosing the Right One   Mon Sep 10, 2012 5:30 pm

Here are some helpful tips in choosing a name for your pet:

Look at your pet’s physical features. From there, you might be able to come up with a name that perfectly fits. The first most noticeable thing about hedgehogs is their quills which look like spikes and Spike may sound like a good name for a hedgehog. There are other hedgehog names you can draw from the said characteristic. There’s Quilly, Needles, Squills or Prickly Pear. Your pet hedgehog might be a little difficult at times than you might want to call him Knuckles for knucklehead.

Their colors can also help you create a name most fitting for your pet. If your pet’s color is brown, you can name him after a famous chocolate brand such as Hershey or Kisses. You may also name your pet Snowhite for being white or Cotton perhaps. You may use the foreign language equivalent to describe the color of your hedgehog. Such as the Spanish term for white which is Blanco, or Blanca, if your hedgehog is female.

Hedgehog names may also be derived from Native American names because of their meanings. They can appropriately describe your pet at the same time. Take a look at the following examples:

Aakil stands for intelligent and smart while Chanda means fierce and passionate. If your hedgehog is always excited, you may name him Dipaka or maybe Hari which means yellow or brown while Kanchana means gold. If your hedgehog is your hero in terms of providing you fun and entertainment, call him Mahavira for great hero.

Hedgehogs love to run which they sometimes do on their exercise wheel for hours. You might want to name your pet after a famous runner due to this reason. Jesse Owens is one of the greatest runners of all time and Jesse sounds like a good hedgehog name or use Owens, instead. Other hedgehog names suggestions are Sugarbum, Hooper, Spyderwick, Skittles, Sonic (from Sonic the Hedgehog), Shadow, Stitch, Pickles, Oliver or Pepper. You may also pick one from Spike, Bucky, Quillo, Lour or Penny which are all from the movie “Over the Hedge”. Hedgehogs have snouts similar to what pigs have and they make the same grunting noise. Because of this, pig-derivative names may be considered such as Hedgiepiggy, Pigwink, or Piglet.

No matter what name you choose for your hedgehog, just remember that it will stay with your pet forever. Address your pet by its name often at the beginning so that it will learn to recognize it. It will help him recognize you better as its owner and someone it can associate to play time, fun and treats.

There are many more hedgehog names suggestions but it may help if you choose one that has a strong sound to it. It will help your pet recognize and remember it better and faster.

Puddin' was already named when we rescued her, her full title s now Puddin' Features

Little Miss Daisy Splat was named so because Nikki said she just didn't look like a Daisy and then when I first held her after she uncurled, she just splatt out... To me, she really dies look like a Little Miss Daisy Splat still Very Happy

Mushroom came from the very first picture I have of him as a brand new hoglet, he looked just like a large flat mushroom. He's Mushroom to me and 'shroom to Helen and her Nick Very Happy

I had been wanting to carry on the theme I had for my hamsters....which was the spanish words for different parts of the solar system. Luna (Moon), Estrella (Star). If I had had a male hog it would have been Sol.

But as I decided I wanted a little girl hog Sol didnt seem right and nothing else seemed right for her.

I wanted a name relating to her spikiness but I didnt want to go with anything obvious so I started looking for spanish words I could use....which is when I came across Cholla (pronounced Choy-ah) I like this because its a spanish name and because it's the name of a type of cacti in arizona so I thought it was good for a hedgehog name.

But I also wanted a name that went with how pretty she is. I fell in love with the name Lulabelle as soon as I saw it - I thought it fits her so well cos shes beautiful (belle) and some of the meanings of the name Lula are lady and princess which of course she is! lol

Cholla-Lulabelle
